The best of US war

The US has fought in a lot of wars and in those wars a lot of battles. The list literally goes on and on and on, so I thought about what some of the most important battles and moments in each of these wars. Once I came up with that question for a while I thought about the best way to answer it. I eventually decided upon doing a website as you can obviously tell. What I wanted to do with the website is make a sort of tier list explaining why I chose battles to go where they did, but I couldn’t take every way USA has ever fought because that would be exhausting. So instead what I decided to do was take what I thought were the most important wars in US history; those being The Revolutionary War, The Civil W, and WWII. Out of these I did research trying to figure out what battles were most important and had the most impact in the wars for just the US not taking into account what happened to other countries.

The timeline above shows the three wars that I chose to do my research on and when they took place.

The Battles of The Revolutionary War

The Revolutionary War. The first war America ever fought in and the war that gave us our independence. The battles that I have thought to be the most important for the war are Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Saratoga, and Yorktown. I feel as though these serve the most important and had the most impact during and after the war.

Starting in chronological order The Battle of Lexington and Concord. The first battle of the war and the first time and of the us men see any sort of combat. While it didn’t serve as heavy loses for either side it was the start to the war and it made things a lot different for the rest of the thirteen colonies for example the morning after the battle a militia of over 15,000 troops that had arrived from New England.

The next battle is The Battle of Bunker Hill. I feel like even the people who hate history have at least heard of Bunker Hill. For some reason it left a lasting impression after the war. Although it wasn’t huge battle and ended up being a pyrrhic victory for the British its legacy is what makes it important.

Next we have The Battle of Saratoga. Up to this point in the war the US have not been able to win at all and just jeep losing position and men. The reason this battle is so important is because it marks a turning point in the war for the US. Its the first victory they get and its big. They end up capturing 6,000+ people and is just the motivation they need to keep the war going for them.

Lastly is The Siege of Yorktown. What makes this battle important is it simply marks the end of the war and victory for America. With the British surrender George Washington is able to capture the British troops and this is where the iconic picture of George Washington walking down the line comes from after the British surrender.

The timeline above shows the names and dates of each of the battles that I chose.

The Civil Wars Battles

The American Civil War is perhaps the most important war in US history. It would shape the country forever and after it nothing would ever be the same. If the war ended any differently life as we know it could be competently different. That is why the war is so important because of its legacy.

The first battle is The Battle of Bull Run. This is the first battle of the Civil war and shows just how strong the confederate army is and that they are not to be taken lightly. They come out and shock the north in a deceive victory while both did take casualties but the much more prepared south forced The Union to retreat.

The next battle I have is The Battle of Antietam. This battle is important for lots of reasons. One it was the bloodiest day in US history losing a combined 22,717 men in just one day. Two the North where able to get a win which didnt happen very much at this point in the war. Lastly this battle led to The Emancipation Proclamation which made any slave that was able to run away a now free slave. This allowed thousands of newly freed slaves to run away from the South which dropped the production of just about everything to go down hill.

The last battle is The battle of Gettysburg. This marked somewhat of a turning point in the war and if this battle played out a little differently the entire war would’ve been different. If the South would’ve won they would’ve had free access to the Norths cities and the war would’ve most likely ended. But that is not how it went because the North defended the territory and it marked a huge lost for the South and from this point on the North was able to go on attack for the rest of the war.

The timeline above shows the battles and the dates they took place.

WWII battles

WWII was quite a large war but some parts of it the US have nothing to do with. So i focused on battles only the US were involved in. The first one being The Attack on Pearl Harbor and while this wasn’t exactly much of a battle it was still probably the most important event in the war for the US. Without we never enter the war or at least we don’t enter it with as much hate and wanting revenge. This is the ultimate way for the US to enter the war because now we are mad and ready to win the war.

The next battle is The Battle of Midway it shows the first time the US are able to break the codes of Japan and use them to there advantage. They pickup on a plan to attack the US and prepare for it. When it comes to the battle the US catch Japan by surprise an do a lot of damage to the Japanese.

The next battle is The Invasion of Normandy or more commonly referred to as DDay. Almost everyone has heard of the battle of DDay it is simply one of the most famous battles of all time but that was just part of the battle. It started with DDay as they charged the beaches of Normandy and after a long struggle and a lot of men dying they make it through the defenses and march towards Normandy. This led the Germans eventually retreating and giving up a lot of land they worked so hard for.

The last one isn’t really a battle but rather maybe the most important part of the war and it is The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Everyone knows what happened here because the US set of two atom bombs over two cities in Japan. This even literally changed the world forever nothing will be same as it was before the bombs. It also marked what was practically the end of the war. It also is important to note the fact that if America didn’t make the bomb first since Germany was a close second the world would be very different because Germany probably wouldn’t have had very much compassion with the bombs and the world would look very very different.

The timeline above shows the battles from WWII I chose and the dates of them.

Vietnam War Battles

The Vietnam War for the US was the war that changed war forever. It was fought for 20 years from 1955-1975 and is the reason the draft will never come back into the US. The Vietnam War was so much more than just the effect it had on the soldiers which was just awful. It brought the public opinions of wars to an all time low because almost all of the US felt as though we shouldn’t be involved or there at all. With all this being said its still a war and it still has points that changed it.

The first battle that I think should be mentioned is The Battle of La Drang Valley. This is the first time NV (North Vietnamese) troops fight american troops in battle and although both sides come out thinking they have one it still marks a important point in the war.

Next is The Tet Offensive. The Tet Offensive was a string of attacks over two months to weaken that American and SV troops and bases. This is consider the turning point in the war and from this point on America and SV is never able to fully recover. Although they font lose huge numbers the position they lose come back to be the downfall.

Next is The Battle of Hamburger Hill. This might have been one of the most pointless and biggest mistakes by the US in the whole war. The us spends a lot of men and fire power to try and get this hill which serves almost no point or benefits to them. They eventually get the hill just to retreat and leave it behind. They lost men from the pointless attack and when news of this got to America the public support of the war goes to an all time low with everyone being against the war and asking for us to leave. This marks the point where people in the US and Vietnam had lost hope.

The Fall of Saigon. This marks the end of the war and the NV victory. The US try to get as many people out of the country as possible. What makes this battle important is it simply marks the end of the bloody. This war would go on to change America forever in the ways we look at wars. After this the draft was hated and making the chance of it return very unlikely because this was everybody’s biggest problem with the war, men that didn’t want to were being forced to go to war that was “pointless” and die for what was thought to be nothing.
